Lawrence Weiner was born in Cleveland, Ohio in 1932. He received a
Bachelor of Music degree in 1954 and a Master of Music degree in 1956
from the University of Texas at Austin. In 1972 he received a DMA from
the University of Miami. He has studied with Kent Kennan, Clifton Williams,
Juan Orrego-Salas, and Alfred Reed.
Dr. Weiner has written more than 160 compositions for a wide range of
musical solos and ensembles, more than 50 of which are published. He has
received many commissions and awards, including the ABA Ostwald Award for
Daedalic Symphony.
Dr. Weiner now holds the title of Professor Emeritus and
Composer-in-Residence at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, where he taught
for 28 years until retirement in 2003. He continues to compose actively.
